Hey Balanced Beauties!
Happy October!
I created this blog because I knew I wanted to share my passion for health and fashion with you all. I had no expectations going into this! Also, I was never a great writer (so I apologize if there are spelling/grammar errors here or there, ha!) but I do know that what I am putting out there for you to read is genuine, real and true to myself. With that being said, there is no better feeling than being authentic to who you are, and having others say that you’ve inspired them in multiple ways. Honestly, this inspires me to keep going! I know I’ve said this already, but I truly appreciate all of your instagram DM’s, text messages and comments with your blog requests. The feedback has been uplifting and only inspires me to share more with you. You’ll probably hear this 90 times, but thank you and I am grateful for you, from the bottom of my heart <3
Many of you requested a blog post about my “secret” to staying fit and I have some answers for you!
First, working out is NOT easy all the time. Although I thoroughly enjoy working out, after a long day of work or a sleepless night, sometimes moving my body is the last thing I want to do. However, I have never heard of anyone (including myself) who said that they regret their workout when it’s over.
At the times where I am feeling unmotivated, I know that is most likely when both my mind and body need the workout the most. I often think about the awesome endorphins that I will experience after the workout, and more than half the battle is just getting into the car!
It’s all about mind over matter (for me). In these unmotivated instances, I will hop in my car with all of my workout clothes on and treat myself to an espresso, or an iced green tea. Once I get into my car for another reason, it is easier for me to go straight to my workout. This is something that I do to get myself in the car, the first and most important step to working out. Although, if you are located in an urban community where you can just walk to your workout, I am sure you can do something similar!
Secret #1: I don’t have a gym membership! I haven’t had a gym membership in 2 years. Mainly because I found myself getting really bored at the gym, and truthfully found more personal “gains” by taking various workout classes. I decided to spend the money taking group classes, where I was motivated by the people that I am surrounded by. This helps me stay motivated and allows me to switch up my workouts. I also love that I can meet friends within my community and be with people who enjoy the the same workouts as me.
Secret #2: I don’t workout everyday! Although I used to workout every single day, I have learned a lot about my body and what works best for it. I know girls always say this about bulking or muscles, but my mom and sisters always joke with me and say that I was born with muscles and abs. From the second I was born, my mom said the doctors used to tell them that I was extremley strong and had abnormal strength for a newborn (lol).. With that being said, my personal body type has a lot to do with genetics. I usually workout 4 days a week. If I somehow get to 5 workout classes a week, well, it’s an awesome week! I try to be as active as possible for the other 3 days that I am not working out. I will either pop on a 25/30 minute DVD (PiYo/Beach Body or short workouts on youtube) and will do something at home. If I don’t feel like doing anything, I will stretch on my own or take my big puppy, Payton, for an extra long walk that day.
I truly believe that working out and staying fit is different for everyone and their body’s genetic make-up. I know people that workout everyday but still can’t lose weight. I used to be one of those people that participated in high intensity workouts, 7 days a week, and did not lose a single pound! On top of that I wasn’t eating balanced and truthfully it was all too much for my personal body type. So I truly believe you just have to find what works for you and your body. Again, it is about balance and knowing your personal limits and what your body actually needs instead of overworking it.
Workouts that I enjoy and work for my body:
- Barre
- Yoga (Vinyasa or Power)
- Cycle
- Long fast walks
- Kickboxing
- Running Intervals (walk/sprints)
Outfit Details:
Many of you asked about this outfit so here are the details! These are actually jeggings and they are seriously, awesome. They are black and “destroyed”. They are high waisted but have a lot of stretch. I am usually a size 24 or 25 in certain jeans and I purchased a size 0 in these. I also really love this price! Here is the link to these black jeggings.
This top is now on SALE!!!! Honestly, this top is so comfortable and I love that I can pair it with any color jean/jeggings. This gray ruffle sleeve top is from nordstrom.
These mules are by Halogen from nordstrom, however, it seems like they are sold out. Here are a similar pair of mules.
